While you are busy on your computer, Windows update reboots. If you miss a pop-up, your computer automatically restarts. As a Windows user, it has happened to you. All the programs you had open are now closed. Windows rebooted your computer without getting permission from you. You’re furious and stuck waiting for the updates to finish. Want to know how to disable forced restarts after Windows updates?<\/p>\n

After Windows updates, rebooting is necessary to ensure security updates take effect. Windows should not reboot our computers without permission.<\/p>\n

Install Windows Updates Manually<\/strong><\/h3>\n

You can stop automatic reboots by changing settings for your Windows updates. Open the control panel for Windows Update. Select \u201cDownload updates but let me choose whether to install them.<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n

This method informs you of Windows updates by an icon in your system tray. Install them when you<\/strong> are ready (not Windows) by clicking on the icon. After downloading, you will receive a prompt to reboot. This disables forced restarts and stops the pestering for you to reboot.<\/p>\n

Use a Registry Hack<\/strong><\/h3>\n

This method is for those who are confident to make system changes. Use a registry hack as another way to disable forced restarts. This hack allows Windows to update like normal. Your computer will not reboot automatically while logged on.<\/p>\n

Press Windows Key + R > enter regedit > OK<\/strong><\/p>\n

Navigate down to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE\\Policies\\Microsoft\\Windows\\WindowsUpdate\\AU<\/strong><\/p>\n

If parts of this key do not exist yet, create them.<\/p>\n

Click on the key AU on the pane on the left; on the right pane, right-click and select New DWORD (32-bit) value.<\/p>\n
