Is Anti-virus Software a Need?

Do you really need anti-virus on your computer? Everyone who uses a  computer is open to viruses. There are several reasons as to why you need anti-virus.

Every time you engage on the internet, you are at risk of getting a virus. This is why it is important to have anti-virus software.

You can get a computer virus from almost anything. Downloading files, visiting a malicious website, or having your computer exchange information with an unsafe source while on the internet are common ways to get infected.

Do you really need anti-virus? The answer is, yes. It is important to maintaining your PC’s health.

Anti-virus scans the files on your computer to detect patterns of infection. Sometimes the anti-virus software will predict what a file will do by putting it in a sandbox and seeing if it acts maliciously. Most anti-virus software depends on signatures to find malicious malware.

If you don’t use anti-virus software, you will most likely ruin your computer. It is important to know what a virus does. A computer virus is a program that infects your computer with malicious code and copies itself. A virus will attach itself to a certain file so it can be opened when that file is opened.

New viruses are made every day that is why it is important to update your anti-virus software. Virus creators know that there is new anti-virus software being developed every day and that’s why they make new viruses. To help the anti-virus companies, you may send your virus over to be examined and become protected against in the future.

Antivirus software download

When acquiring anti-virus, make sure you get a purchased version because that is the best anti-virus software. The free anti-virus software is usually a light version that doesn’t have all the features. There is no compelete support so it won’t offer full protection. You can check all the anti-virus software reviews. Anti-virus is a small price to pay to have your computer protected. If you paid that much for your computer then you should pay a little for anti-virus. You can search on the internet for an anti-virus software download. You can also search for the top anti-virus software downloads. Make sure you renew your subscription after one year. Many times people will forget to renew and their computers become infected.

Although anti-virus has very positive intentions, it can sometimes make a mistake such as identifying a good file as a virus. This can cause a problem because the anti-virus automatically deletes viruses and might delete an important file that it accidentally identifies as a virus. This bug has been attempted to be fixed.  No software is perfect and can stop every spyware and malware threat.

Make sure you take care of the health of your computer with to block the many active viruses out there. You really do need computer virus protection.

How To Rip Music CD With Windows Media Player

Ripping CD Music Files

Windows Media Player CD Rip

Copy Music CD on PC

Ever wanted to save your music from CD to your computer?  Having the convenience of being able to store different types of files from the available storage devices is as easy as 1-2-3, whether it be a flash drive or USB drive, hard drive, DVD, or CD. It is just merely like copying it from the source and pasting it to the destination folder.

However, unlike other storage devices, “copying and pasting” method does not work when you’re trying to get music files from CDs, as they usually are in .wav format. Here’s what you can do.

1. Insert the music CD into the computer

2. Open Windows Media Player:

For a Windows PC, there will always be a built-in Windows Media Player program. You can find it when you click on Start Button, then All Programs, then Windows Media Player.

3. Click on the “Rip” tab.

You will be given a window showing check-boxed beside the list of songs or tracks that’s contained in the CD. You can choose which songs you would like to copy (or “rip” for a more technical term).

3. Click on “Start Rip” button, and your chosen songs will begin to copy the files. Other songs not yet ripped shall show a “Pending” status.

However, by default, the Windows Media Player automatically rips the CD after it was inserted. You can also choose to have ripping begin immediately upon inserting the CD, or you can turn off automatic ripping from the Rip Music tab of the Options dialog box.

4. After the songs has been ripped, you can now remove the CD and check your library for a new folder containing the ripped songs. Some CDs track information is automatically detected online and input for you. If not, it is usually named as “Unknown Album (date, time)” and you can change the name to what you like.   Then, you can now use the “copying and pasting” method to transfer the files to other storage devices, and even have it burned into a blank CD.

Now you know how to make take your music collection from a CD and backup to your computer music library.  If you have any trouble with this, just contact the computer specialists at IQ Computer Services.

How To Check Your Computer’s Temperature?

We all love a quiet and smooth running PC fan, don’t we? However, sometimes you’ll hear your PC fan work much harder than usual and making a lot of annoying noises. It’s like a mini chopper inside your rig. This is probably because of overheating issues. It’s a good idea to monitor your CPU temperature to see if it’s running cool or not.

Checking your CPU temperature is not as simple as touching it but it’s still fairly easy and free. The free utility, SpeedFan will help you monitor your PC’s temperature for free. In addition to monitoring the CPU temperature, it will also keep an eye on Hard Disk temperature, and the speed of the fans, as the name suggests. Below are the instructions on how to download, install, and use SpeedFan to monitor your PC’s temperature.

Step 1

Go to Almico website and download the latest version for SpeedFan on your computer. The recent latest version is SpeedFan 4.49

Step 2

Run SpeedFan.exe, and install the software with the default options. Don’t mess with any settings at all just do the recommended install.

Step 3

Once the install is finished. Open SpeedFan from your desktop or the start menu (It depends on where you’ve installed it). SpeedFan may ask for some permissions before launching, just grant the permissions so it can access your hardware to monitor the temperature.

Step 4

Now when SpeedFan is running, you’ll see 5 different tabs. The first one is Readings, this is the most important tab and it’s where you’ll find your CPU usage, your temperatures for Hard disk and CPU, and the ability to set Automatic fan speed. If the Temperature is denoted by a Flame then it means Overheated, a Green tick means normal temperature.

Step 5

You can now check out different tabs for different features. The charts tab will let you monitor temperatures of your device over time. Just tick the names of hardwares you want to monitor. In the S.M.A.R.T tab you will find an extensive info on your hard disk, it’s fitness and performance. You can even run different tests on individual drives and monitor the temperature of the disks as well.

If the temperature of your CPU is running really hot then you should probably investigate further. Check out to see what’s making your CPU run so hotter than usual. You can check out the CPU usage in Task manager to see what process is hogging down on the CPU resources.

The common problems that cause computer overheating are fans running quite slower than normal, dust particles clogging the vents, and importantly the thermal paste which is used for cooling the CPU gets worn down completely. If the CPU overheats, it will shut off instantly to cool itself down which can be a problem for your computer usage.
